Increase your reach in search engines with “spiderfood”

The Argentinian company Netic Infoservice has useful tools to help you optimize your web site for search engines: Keyword Thief to help you extract good keywords from highly ranked web pages, and Synonymizer to generate synonyms for the keywords you use in a particular web page.

To optimize a web page for search engines involves several crucial steps:

  • Ensure that the page contains all the search terms that people may use when searching for it.
  • Ensure that these keywords are present in every important part of the page, including the title, the headings, the first paragraph and several more obscure places like meta tags and image ‘alt=’ tags.
  • Ensure that your site is linked to from other web pages with similar topics, and that the links themselves contain the keywords that are most relevant for your page.

Finding the most relevant keywords for each web page is simple using WordTracker. If your website mostly delivers data from databases, consider using WebMerge to convert this “hidden” data to static text that search engines can index.

Use KeywordThief to find hidden keywords

To ensure that you haven’t missed keywords that your competitors are making a fortune from, you should try using KeywordThief. It lets you run a Google search for the keywords you have decided to focus on. KeywordThief then downloads all the web pages on the first page of the Google search results, and extracts keywords based on word frequencies.

Keyword Thief not only looks in the text, but also in meta tags and image ‘alt=’ tags. This may unveil hidden keywords that you should consider running through WordTracker for use in your own page.

Use Synonymizer to find alternate expressions

When selecting keywords for a webpage, it is easy to get stuck in one particular perspective or terminology. Many sites heavily promoting loans never consider equally powerful keywords like borrow or cash. To help you find a wider terminology, use the Synonymizer. It reads your text and automatically provides several alternatives for each keyword. This way, your page gets filled with textual variations that you probably have missed. These varied text phrases increase the probability that your page contains the keywords a customer is searching for:

  • increase my money
  • borrow more cash
  • take a cash loan
  • need cash now
  • borrow cash online
  • etc.

To make this process easier for you, the Synonymizer comes with a very powerful phrase generator, that allow you to combine a number of phrases into complete sentences. If the number of generated phrases is too large for your requirements, Synonymizer can even extract the “best” (most different from another) variations.

Focus on the most relevant keywords

Most websites are focused on just one or a few topics. There is no point in trying to get to the top of the search results unless you actually provide the content that people are searching for. If your web site is about horse racing, you don’t even want to be included in the search results for horse riding. Promote your site using only the most relevant keywords.

Also, don’t do anything deceptive or dubious just to achieve a higher search engine ranking. To learn how to be a good Internet citizen from a search engine’s point of view, have a look at Google’s guidelines for webmasters at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html.
